Transcript #3: Encouragement of Climb (Episode 1)

This week's transcription is of the first episode of an anime called "Encouragement of Climb" (ヤマノススメ).  You can watch the episode here whilst following the transcript.  Anime is particularly useful for those wishing to learn colloquial language and, as usual, certain phrases have been picked out for review at the end of this post.

Unforgettable memories.

What about that girl?

That girl?

We've been together since middle-school but she always makes excuses not to go out.

But we may as well try!  Yukimura-san!

I'm Aoi Yukimura.  I'm starting high-school today.

20 3mm round balls, 112 small beads, one thread, four 20cm ones, special small beads...

Yukimura-san?

What is it?

After this we thought we could all go drink some tea.

Sorry!  Today there's a memorial service, then I've got to buy ingredients for dinner, then take the dog for a walk, then...

What a shame!

See, I told you so.

うん。
Yeah.

I'm not a very sociable person.  But, on the way home I'll buy ingredients for sweets!  I'll have a look for new charms at the crafts store!  I'll stop by the library... Even though I'm at high-school now I can still have fun by myself!

Aoi!  It's been a while!  Since elementary school, right!

Who is she again...

Could it be destiny that we're together again?  You remember, right, the sunrise we saw that day.

Hinata-chan?

We can finally go climbing!

"Go climbing"... climb what?

What are you saying!  Mountains, right, mountains!

Mountains?

Let's come here together again someday.

I said that...?

And that's not all - let's climb Mt. Tsurugi one-handed, hold a funeral service for Naomi Uemura on McKinley.

What was I thinking?  I've completely forgotten these memories.  Sure, there was a time when I was obsessed with mountains.  I got ahead of myself, broke a bone and was hospitalized.  Ever since I've been proudly afraid of heights [sarcasm]!

Let's climb the mountain together like we promised!  (Mountain, mountain, mountain!)

Hang on, I... I prefer indoor activities, not to mention I have a fear of heights...

If you're always so antisocial you won't make friends!  Or find a boyfriend!  Not with those dark hobbies.

This girl, she doesn't just not listen, she carries on without a single thought... that's right, I really had completely forgotten!

[Flashback] I fell.  (No~!) Aoi-chan said she fancies Yoneda-kun.

Whenever I'm with her, things always end up badly.

Anyway, come over to mine!  Let's make plans!

No.  Anything but mountains!
