Transcript #4: Encouragement of Climb (Episode 2)

Following on from the last transcript, here's a transcription of the second episode of "Encouragement of Climb" (ヤマノススメ).  Watch the video here, trying to follow the written Japanese.  As usual, you can find a selection of useful phrases and expressions at the end of the transcript.  Enjoy!

When I was a child, I fell from the jungle gym and broke a bone.

Since, I've had a terrible fear of heights.

So I became an indoor person, enjoying only those hobbies that I could do alone.  I had less friends but thought I didn't really mind.  However, ...

Let's climb the mountain as promised!  Come over to mine, let's make plans!

No!  Anything but mountains!

I'm home!

Ah, Aoi-chan.  Haven't you grown!

Aoi!  Over here, over here.

My father's climbing gear is amazing, right?  We can climb mountains with this!

Don't get ahead of yourselves.  There are more casualties that you think.

Eh?!  Didn't you say that the two of us could go once we'd started high school?

First you have to learn the basics.  Do you know what this is?

Um, something to kill bears with?

Wrong.  It's a tent frame.  You hang the tent from the frame, cover it with the fly, fasten and - voilà.

Wow!  Look, look, it's so light!  Hey, let's get in!  Aoi, hurry up!

Woah, it's cramped.

At this rate, I'm really going to end up climbing a mountain.

Aoi, you didn't remember me, did you?  Thanks, for forcing yourself to come out with me.  I was happy and ended up dragging you around without realising it.

It's pretty, isn't it?  I'm glad we could see it together.  I'll climb mountains with my father.

Look closely.

This is the most beautiful moment in the world.

An unforgettable memory.

Let's come here together again someday!  Yeah, definitely, let's!

That's right.  We did go together.

Aoi?

The words just came right out my mouth.

If it's not a particularly high one, maybe going to a mountain would be OK.

Really?  Then, shall we go to Mt. Fuji?

Let's start with hills first...

Then, how about K2?  Everest?  Wow!

Are you even listening to me?

I'm regretting it a little after all.
